Putting the Fun in Fund Raising

One of the most enjoyable and rewarding ways to help poor people is through raising funds for charity. And there are so many ways you can do it. You could simply send pictures of poor people to all your friends, family, and colleagues, and tell them that you’d like to open an orphanage or a school in a poor country they are unlikely to ever visit. Or you could stand outside train stations holding a brightly colored bucket bearing the name of your charity of choice. In both cases, you would be amazed how easy it is to tap into the natural generosity of people.

A popular form of fund raising is to get people to sponsor you to do something extraordinary, such as running a marathon while dressed as Batman, or shaving your beard. Or, if you were planning on doing an amazing adventure vacation, say climbing Kilimanjaro or cycling across China, why not use this as an opportunity to get people to give money to charity. Not only will you be helping poor people, but now all your friends will think that you are pretty awesome, rather than hating you.

If being athletic or adventurous is not your thing, you could consider hosting a charity party or gala dinner. People love the opportunity to dress up and spend the evening drinking champagne cocktails and eating gourmet food, while learning all about the lives of the poor people they are helping.

But no matter what you do to help poor people, the important thing to remember is to make sure that you have a lot of fun doing it.

My personal favorite thing to do is bar-crawling dressed as one of the Village People, carrying a big red bucket with the words ‘BUY A DRINK FOR POOR AFRICAN CHILDREN’. I’ve had some pretty good nights doing that, I can tell you!
